Oregon legislative Democrats join governor, Republicans in opposing rebate ballot measure
Democratic leaders in Oregon, along with Republican colleagues and Governor Tina Kotek, are strongly opposing Measure 118 on the November ballot. This measure proposes a 3% increase in the corporate minimum tax on sales exceeding $25 million, with the revenue used to provide an annual $1,600 rebate to every Oregonian. Critics argue that the measure would decrease state funds available for essential services by approximately $400 million in the 2025-27 budget cycle and could drive up costs for goods and services. They also warn that it may negatively impact critical government services such as health care, roads, and public safety. The measure, funded by a California venture capitalist, has faced significant opposition from Oregon Business and Industry and legislative leaders. (Salem Reporter)
