Early results show incumbents Andersen, Evans, Mannix, Cramer winning Salem-area House races
Salem-area incumbents led in all four Oregon House races on Tuesday. Rep. Kevin Mannix, R-Salem, held a lead over Virginia Stapleton in District 21, focusing on public safety and mental health, while Stapleton emphasized her city council experience and support for reproductive and LGBTQ+ rights. In District 19, Rep. Tom Andersen, D-Salem, led over David Brown, highlighting city budget, environmental, and mental health priorities. Rep. Paul Evans, D, maintained a strong lead in District 20, focusing on emergency management and veterans' services. Rep. Tracy Cramer, R, led in District 22, campaigning on school funding, gang violence, and addiction treatment. (Salem Reporter)
Starting in 2025, nearly 30% of Oregon taxpayers will be able to electronically file both federal and state income tax returns through a new combination of IRS Direct File and Direct File Oregon. Governor Tina Kotek described the program as a "game-changer" offering a FREE, equitable filing option. Nearly 7,000 taxpayers used Oregon’s state-only Direct File Oregon in 2024, and around 640,000 are expected to benefit from the connected federal-state system in 2025. This expanded program will allow more taxpayers across 24 states to use the free filing system, covering additional forms such as certain 1099 income types. Oregon was the first state to join the IRS’s initiative to create a streamlined, cost-free filing process for both state and federal returns. (My Oregon News)
