Okay, this is one of our biggest anouncements so far.
Over the past two months, I’ve poured my heart into creating Barriers to Bridges, a documentary focused on Salem’s housing crisis—why it’s happening, what’s working, and where we go from here.
This project has been a labor of love, and I’m proud of how it highlights the incredible efforts happening in our community.

What Happened Last Week in Salem?
Avelo Airlines has extended flights from Salem to Burbank, California, through Labor Day and will resume seasonal flights to Las Vegas on May 1, 2025, the airline announced Tuesday. The announcement follows last week’s cancellation of early 2025 Las Vegas flights due to low demand, marking another adjustment for Avelo, the sole commercial airline serving Salem. Despite shifts in service, the city’s first year of commercial air travel brought nearly $19 million into the regional economy, according to a recent report. City leaders anticipate continued growth and will review an airport master plan in February to guide future operations. (Salem Reporter)
Several new Oregon laws take effect on Jan. 1, 2025, addressing key issues statewide. SB 1553 bans drug use on public transit with penalties of up to a year in jail or a $6,250 fine. HB 4145 introduces stricter penalties for creating or sharing media depicting animal abuse, including up to five years in prison. HB 4147 allows stop-arm cameras on school buses to catch drivers who ignore safety lights and extends diesel bus retrofit deadlines to 2026. SB 1532 mandates culturally responsive education plans for immigrant and refugee students, with biennial progress reports. SB 1533 expands voters' pamphlet translations to more languages in each county to improve accessibility. Lastly, SB 1508 caps insulin costs at $35 per month and prohibits using “quality of life” metrics in Oregon Health Plan coverage decisions, ensuring fair treatment for people with chronic conditions or disabilities.
